Homozygous Grizzle

This bird shows the typical characteristics of Homozygous (Pure) Grizzle in the dark tips of the secondary wing feathers and tail feathers.  If this bird did not have white flights, it would show the same dark tipped flights.

Tortoiseshell, commonly called Tort, are visually different from normal Grizzles in that nearly all Torts show Reddish or Bronze coloring.  Note the difference between the Torts pictured below and the classic Blue Grizzles pictured above.

It is not uncommon for some Torts to also show some White like this bird.  They almost appear Splashed.

Mottles are a type of Grizzle that appear on Spread birds such as Black, Recessive Red, Dun, etc.  Many Mottles start out as solid colored birds and moult in White later in life.  Mottles can be anywhere from a solid colored bird with just a few White feathers to a nearly White bird with just a few colored feathers.
